Weekly Fishing Reports — Fishing With Bernie

Grand County fishing report for the week of 2-24-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 2-24-20. The slush is still an issue, people traveling on the lakes are breaking up the snow allowing some slush to freeze.

William's Fork - 14 to 17 inch lake trout are being caught in 50 to 70 feet of water with small 1 to 3 inch plastics tipped with sucker meat. Bite has been decent however we are starting to see fish come in and follow jigs without biting in heavily fished areas. Wind has moved the snow around the lake this week creating slush free areas and areas with deep drifted snow and slush. Sam Hochevar- Guide Fishing with Bernie

Grand Lake- Fishing has been fair to good for all species.  There is a lot of deep snow and slush when you get away from the part close to town that was hit hard by the tournament over the weekend. Lake trout are being caught both on the bottom and suspended on various plastics and spoons,  depths from 50-80ft have been producing well.   Rainbows and browns are being caught in 10-20 ft of water early and late in the day on small jigs tipped with wax worms.  - Dan Shannon, Guide- Fishing with berniekeefe@hotmail.com

Lake Granby- Slush continues to be an issue, be very careful and have a few friends to help you get out if your bringing an atv. Lake trout are fishing good with small plastics tipped with sucker meat. Spoons and bait are also producing. Rainbows are eating small bright jigs tipped with wax worms close to the shorelines.

Grand county fishing report for the week of 2-17-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 2-17-20. Yesterday we received another foot of snow in the area. This is creating lots of slush on our lakes, making travel difficult for walkers and some snowmobiles. ATV's are nearly impossible to get around. Here is an article that might help you get around in the slush. https://www.fishingwithbernie.com/blog/2020/2/10/slush-six

William's fork: Snow is 1 to 3 feet deep on the lake and significant slush pockets have formed on the ice. 14 to 17 inch lake trout are being caught in 40 to 70 feet of water on small 1 to 3 inch jigs tipped with sucker meat. Most of the action is on the bottom but we have seen groups of lake trout move through suspended as well recently, so keep a eye out for those suspended fish while you are jigging around the bottom. Rainbows are being caught in 10 feet of water or less in the large bays on the lake and in the inlet area. The best action for the rainbows is early morning first light to around 8 in the morning. Small 1/16th ounce jigs tipped with either wax or meal worms has been producing fish

Grand Lake: Grand has anywhere from 2 to 3 feet of snow on the ice which has created a ton of slush. Every area I have fished on the lake this week has some level of slush on it. Lake trout are being caught in 25 to 50 feet of water on small tube jigs (3.5 inches or smaller) tipped with sucker meat. The rainbow bite has slowed down but you can still find them in shallow in 8 feet of water or less cruising.

Lake Granby has a couple feet of snow on it combined with deep slush pockets, traveling can be difficult. No ATV's have been seen on the lake lately. Lake trout continue to fish well, tubes, twisters, spoons and bait are all producing bites. 50'-80' seems to be a good bite. Rainbows are cruising the shallows easting anything they see but the bite is over by 10:00 am.

Grand County fishing report for the week of 2-11-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 2-11-20. Last week we received over 2' of snow in the area. This is creating lots of slush on our lakes, making travel difficult for walkers and some snowmobiles. ATV's are nearly impossible to get around. Here is an article that might help you get around in the slush. https://www.fishingwithbernie.com/blog/2020/2/10/slush-six

Grand Lake- The latest snow has made it difficult cover a lot of water, especially for the fishermen who are limited by foot access. The slush is becoming somewhat of a major factor and is testing a lot of anglers. Right now is a great time to study a map and plan out a day that you are comfortable with and keeping you able to hit a couple of key areas where you think the fish are biting.
Rainbows and Browns continue to eat small jigs tipped wax worms, spikes and small pieces of sucker meat continue to produce the best results. Plan on fishing very early in the day for the best results. Drilling before the sun comes up should be considered and the bite generally tapers off by 9 am or so. Suggested jigs are the CLAM caviar, drop kick and the maggot drop.
The lake trout bite has been a little bit sporadic but plenty of fish are still being caught. The fish are running a little bit deeper than they were during first ice. Keep your eyes on your fish finders because there are quite a few fish coming in suspended. The 70-100 foot of water zones continue to produce. Spoons and small tube jigs tipped with sucker have been the best producers as of late.Good luck and stay safe. Don’t forget to stay plenty hydrated as you will be burning a lot of calories with the current conditions. Jake Foos- Guide @ FishingwithBernie
Williams Fork- 14 to 17 inch lake trout are being caught in 40 to 70 feet of water. Keep moving around structure in these depths until you find the concentration of fish. Small plastics and spoons tipped with sucker meat have produced most of the fish. It has snowed 2 feet or more in the last week so expect slush and very difficult walking conditions.Lake Granby- The lake trout are fishing very well. Target 50-100' of water using tube jigs, twisters, spoons, plastic leeches all tipped with a small piece of sucker meat. Pay close attention to your rod tip for bites. Rainbows and browns are in 3-10' of water, try inside turns and the back of bays. Small jigs tipped with a wax worms are getting bit till around 9 am. The Fishing with Bernie team has been guiding in Grand county for over 25 years. Grand County fishing report for the week of 2-3-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 2-3-20. Most of the bitter cold weather should be giving way to some nicer days. Don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses on these sunny days.

Grand Lake  -  Conditions on Grand Lake are consistent for this time of year,  there are a few pockets of slush but overall travel is easy on the ice right now.  Fishing has been up and down with weather.  Rainbows and browns are being caught early and late in the day in less than 15 ft of water on small ice flies or jigs tipped with wax worm,  fish are being found in the areas around the inlets.  Lake trout are being found all over the lake in depths from  65-100ft.  Biobait DNA Go tubes in smelt and rainbow trout colors tipped with small piece of sucker has been consistently getting bites,  move often and work the entire water column to find the active fish,  don’t forget about those suspended fish! Dan Shannon- Guide Fishing with Bernie

Lake Granby- We are seeing very little slush, walkers and ATV's are getting around very well. Rainbows and browns are in the shallows eating small jigs tipped with wax worms early in the morning. Look for inside turns and rock to mud transitions. Lake trout are a still eating pretty consistent throughout the day. Tubes, spoons, twisters and bait are all getting bit. Keep moving till you find a group that will eat.

Williams Fork. The ice is holding right at 10-12” and depending on the day, the snow on top is averaging 6”. Pressure continues to be pretty high but the fish are still biting well.Rainbows and Browns are being caught up shallow, very early and late in the day. If you plan on fishing for these, drill your holes well before sunrise for the best shot at a nice fish. Small tungsten jigs and spoons like a CLAM Caviar or Panfish Leech Flutter spoon have been best. Don’t forget to tip these will a small wax worm for best results. The lake trout in Williams Fork are averaging 12-18” when targeting numbers. The 60-90 foot range has been best with quite a few suspended fish showing themselves in the middle of the column. White has been the best color when selecting a soft plastic and having a very sharp hook is very important.
