Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 2-3-20. Most of the bitter cold weather should be giving way to some nicer days. Don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses on these sunny days.
Grand Lake - Conditions on Grand Lake are consistent for this time of year, there are a few pockets of slush but overall travel is easy on the ice right now. Fishing has been up and down with weather. Rainbows and browns are being caught early and late in the day in less than 15 ft of water on small ice flies or jigs tipped with wax worm, fish are being found in the areas around the inlets. Lake trout are being found all over the lake in depths from 65-100ft. Biobait DNA Go tubes in smelt and rainbow trout colors tipped with small piece of sucker has been consistently getting bites, move often and work the entire water column to find the active fish, don’t forget about those suspended fish! Lake Granby- We are seeing very little slush, walkers and ATV's are getting around very well. Rainbows and browns are in the shallows eating small jigs tipped with wax worms early in the morning. Look for inside turns and rock to mud transitions. Lake trout are a still eating pretty consistent throughout the day. Tubes, spoons, twisters and bait are all getting bit. Keep moving till you find a group that will eat.
Williams Fork. The ice is holding right at 10-12” and depending on the day, the snow on top is averaging 6”. Pressure continues to be pretty high but the fish are still biting well.Rainbows and Browns are being caught up shallow, very early and late in the day. If you plan on fishing for these, drill your holes well before sunrise for the best shot at a nice fish. Small tungsten jigs and spoons like a CLAM Caviar or Panfish Leech Flutter spoon have been best. Don’t forget to tip these will a small wax worm for best results. The lake trout in Williams Fork are averaging 12-18” when targeting numbers. The 60-90 foot range has been best with quite a few suspended fish showing themselves in the middle of the column. White has been the best color when selecting a soft plastic and having a very sharp hook is very important.
