8-3-19 Grand County fishing report

Here is your weekly fishing report for the week of August 5, 2019.

Grand lake: The bite has gotten considerably tougher for all species. A few rainbows are still being caught in the inlets on a fly and bubble. Evenings seem to be best. The lake trout seem to get "wise" very fast. A couple bites in an area then the whole school shuts down. Sizing down your bait seems to help a little.

Williams Fork: Surface temp is 66 in the early AM warming to 71/72 on a sunny day. Water capacity is holding at 99%. Water clarity is about 10 foot. The Lake Trout bite remains good most days for the first few hours of the AM then slows as the day wears on. The bite picks up again after 4PM. We are catching in 80' to 100' with tubes or grubs tipped with sucker meat jigged on or just off the bottom. Suspended or swimming Lake Trout are easy to catch by spotting them on your sonar and dropping down to them. Rainbows are being caught lake wide bottom fishing with bait. Early and late in the day or on overcast days Rainbows are hitting small spinners and flies in the inlet where the river meets the lake. Kokanee trolling is very slow due to lack of population. Northern Pike are slow but if one hits the right environmental conditions the success rate will increase. Fish deeper water early in the day, fish shallower late in the day. Lake Granby is still fishing well for lake trout. Water temps are in the high 60's.The bite in 80-100 feet is still good. Biobait tubes in white or slime colors tipped with sucker meat produced very well this past week. Patience is the key, groups of fish will swim by. Rainbows are hitting power bait along the shorelines. The bite is best early and late in the day.
